i'd like to digress from my usual topic about human rights. however, what i'm about to say has certain implications on human rights. it's about choice. we all have a right to choose our path correct? what we want to do, who we want to be with and all that crap. but do we have the right NOT to choose too? i see where all this is going, it's all dull.

but i am thinking, if i choose to do something, i should do it through and through right? hah. decisions decisions. they say it's better to have a forced decision than to be hanging indecisive. i have a lot on my mind. but i can't say. i choose not to say. and you can choose not to read this crap further. and whatever the outcome, it is for the best. AND YOU KNOW that IS CRAP right? because it is only for the best IF you make the best out of it. i don't think i am making any sense.

some people say, when something is about to end or something is about to begin, we will know. it is our instict. and my instinct is telling me something is about to end, giving way to a new beginning. but being someone who is very resistant to changes, i don't really like this new beginning that is about to begin. and they say, one cannot fully grow when one keeps holding back and looking at the past. i am exhausted.

I want to relate a personal experience about having my rights infringed upon. The other day at work, i received a phone call from an unknown caller, it said "number witheld" on my handphone screen. So i picked up the call, and there's this Malay guy on the other line going "Hello, Hello?" like a few times and i was like, "wrong number", coz i don't have any Malay guy friends who have my number and if it were some interviewer they would introduce themselves and ask for me. So he went on hello-helloing for a good 5 seconds, and i said "wrong number" a few more times and then i realize this ass here might not understand ENGLISH. so i said "salah nombor" and i said it a few more times and wanted to hang up already. before i did, you know what that dick said? he asked," PEPEK ADA?" (got pussy?). i was shocked. but i hung up. my supervisor was sitting next to me, and he gave me a puzzled look. AND THEN the phone rang again, and "number witheld" was shown on the screen. I knew it was the wanker la. So i passed the phone on to my supervisor (who's a guy). and my supervisor said, "hello?" and there was no sound on the other line. and my supervisor repeated, "hello, hello?" and the real pussy hung up.

so i told my supervisor what happened. and he was like, wtf? but anyway, i mean seriously these ppl really have a hell lot of time in their hands to go around harassing people over the phone. i feel so violated like how dare this little bitch have the nerve to do that. and i am thinking every day, women are subjected to put up with shit like that from jobless assholes like that.

so what's the solution to this? i was thinking it'd be great if the telco service provider could have a number barring system, whr we just ban any unsolicited numbers or unwanted callers. good for avoiding AH LONGs and yr EX too, apart from other harassers. but it'll nvr happen. coz many ppl would misuse this system, putting their wives, bosses and mother in-laws in that category too. and so instead of encouraging people to "use the service to make calls and talk longer", they'll do the opposite.

so what we can do is to prepare for some good comebacks whenever some of these dicks want some pussy but can't tell it to you face to face. is there a non-violent way to resolve this? it's a tough call.

In the previous post you may have noticed that i mentioned a bit abt the disparity between the salary of a male and a female for the same job. Ironically enough, today i found an article that further strengthens my convictions abt the issue (trust me, i really didn't go around looking for it). according to the article , not only a woman gets LESS PAY for doing the SAME JOB, but even if you are a MAN, and you WORK amongst WOMEN, YOU GET LESS PAY than the OTHER MALES who work amongst MEN. Furthermore, it's the worst if you work with overaged or underaged (mean age 30) women because these groups of women are considered not so "valuable". how's that for EQUALITY?

Moving on to more SERIOUS issues, and yeah i don't know what else is more serious than the above discrepancy between the wages of males vs. females; but i read in the Reader's Digest
today about this woman who suffered from severe burns (up to 86% of her body) before dying a painful death in the hospital bed in Lahore, Pakistan. And GUESS, just PLEASE PLEASE guess how did she get herself on fire? HER HUSBAND SET HER ON FIRE! and on her death bed, she pleaded with her mother, protecting her husband, saying that "he put out the fire and it was an accident in the kitchen" when her mom accused the bastard of setting her child aflamed. Now one question, how can this woman protect a man who has hurt her like this? It's totally beyond me.

i just attended a seminar on human rights and women's rights during the past weekend and i'd have to say it's a very enlightening experience. i was not well aware of the fact that many people (women of the minority groups especially) are being marginalized and abused with regards to their rights. it is a sad thing, but it isn't enough to just be sad about it or just talk about it. we must DO something about it.

the biggest problem is actually indifference. people hear about stuff like that on the news but they don't do anything because it didn't happen to them or their loved ones. why do we detach ourselves from all these things? why can't we all be at least a little
selfless sometimes? and i don't want to point fingers at who is responsible for all this social ills...but GUYS, PLEASE DO SOMETHING RIGHT.when women's issues are being mentioned, whether it's in the media or in every day conversation, majority of the guys' reactions would be "it's not my problem. women are being leceh (troublesome)." it is rare to see guys who are in tune with women's issues and would actually stand up against injustice. (if you are a guy and you have continued reading up til now, GOOD ON YOU!)

i am not gonna start on the issues about women getting less pay than their male counterparts for doing the same job or on sexual harassment or rape or domestic violence because they are quite heavy and i don't wanna burden you people on the first post. but these issues are very real in our daily lives. let's not even begin with the government or try to blame the system JUST YET, because everything begins with the individual. if you don't do something about your rights, don't expect the system to do something about it. the question is, HOW?

Through education. first, we have to be aware of a problem before we can come up with solutions to it. so what do u know about human rights? if you don't, please refer to the universal declaration of human rights or SUHAKAM. Malaysia has signed a treaty with the United Nations to uphold the UDHR or at least work towards that standard. Although it is not compulsory for a member of the treaty to follow them and cannot be used in court, but it is something useful to bring to the attention of the public. and guess who didn't sign that treaty? THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. what's new? the way they are going with withholding people without trials in Guantanamo Bay , it would be surprising for them to sign that treaty. but Malaysia, in spite of it trying to look humane with signing the treaty, they are detaining people left and right under ISA .

so what is your stand? if you think, well it doesn't affect you, think again. and this time, think harder.
